If Your Calling Exceeds your Capacity

In one of our biggest varsity games of the year, my sophomore son was going to be the starting quarterback. The older starter was injured the week before. So there was A LOT of pressure, even for a boy who not so long ago, wanted to be the real spiderman for his chosen profession.

Here are the words I texted him that morning. I thought maybe they would encourage you too. God seems to be in the business of stretching us past our abilities, resources, and capacity. It is just past ourselves that we see more of Him and He is best seen through our lives.

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10

Conner- nearly everything you have ever done has been within your capacity. This may be what excites me most about this moment in your life: what is required of you is beyond your age, experience, and current ability.

In my life, these have been the moments that have most built my faith in God. Because as you surrender and trust Him and jump into what scares you with all of yourself-  you watch God strengthen you, help you, at times even carry you and you don't remember what happened. That is my prayer for you- that you would experience how much God loves you, how much he wants to help you, how powerful it is to trust Him to do what is beyond your own resources.

I love you and I am unthinkably proud of how you have submitted to your coaches and team this week. You have led them by serving them and working hard, and moving forward even though you feel weak and scared.

But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. 1Cor 12:9

I know you've asked me what it looks like to be humble... It looks like you this week.

Head down. Working hard. Being afraid. Doing it anyway. Thinking of your team more than yourself. Needing God. Knowing when it goes well- it is because of God. Knowing when it goes terrible- it's ok because you have God.

He is in you Conner- He is with you today and tonight and we'll be there too. 😘

And to the rest of you that feel afraid, overwhelmed, stretched beyond your capacities.... God is about to get so big and dear to you.

What is God calling you toward that is outside your capacity and ability?
